Browns GM Andrew Berry still has a lot of draft picks to work with in the upcoming NFL draft
The Cleveland Browns still have a lot of work to do on their roster but finally made their first reported addition of the offseason with the trade for QB Kenny Pickett. In return for Pickett, the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles received QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth round pick.
Given their accomplishments (both pretty limited) and draft pedigree, the Browns adding a fifth round pick in this year’s NFL draft makes sense.
It also helps that Cleveland GM Andrew Berry was projected to add three compensatory selections in the upcoming draft and have up to 12 picks. Having four selections in the top 100 and finally having a first round pick, Berry chose to spend a Day 3 pick to get a backup quarterback with starting experience.
The fifth round pick was originally the Detroit Lions and falls late in the round.
While the official order after the first 96 selections will not be finalized until compensatory picks are announced, the Browns have the following selections in the upcoming 2025 NFL draft:
- 1st Round – Pick #2
- 2nd Round – Pick #33
- 3rd Round – Picks #67 & 94
- 4th Round – 1 pick, # TBD
- 5th Round – None
- 6th Round – 3 picks currently, projected to add another 2 via compensatory selections
- 7th Round – None currently, projected to add the last pick in the draft as a compensatory pick
It would not be surprising for Berry to continue to look for veterans that can help the roster right away with some of the later picks as adding up to six selections from the last two rounds is unlikely to benefit the team.
