The New York Giants did their best to gift the Cleveland Browns a win, and the Browns gave it back every chance they got.
Losing an ugly one 21-15 to the previously 0-2 Giants, the Browns have a lot of soul searching to do. They better have at least 70 mirrors in Berea, because everyone in that facility needs to look in one. Now sitting at 1-2, the Browns still have two weeks of favorable matchups to get back in the win column. As this loss to the Giants proved, however, there is no such thing as an easy win or underdog in the NFL.
Everybody is getting paid to show up, and the Giants showed up for longer. Despite a gift of an interception that was negated by a penalty, an opening kickoff fumble that led to a touchdown, and a second half fumble by running back Devin Singletary, the Browns found a way to lose this game.
The Browns had a fumble of their own on a possession where they were driving the ball as well, had multiple injuries along their offensive line, and more. There are no excuses for losing this game to the NFC East’s bottom-feeder, however. The Browns must get it right, and do it quickly, or the season will be over before it gets started in 2024.
