Will the Cleveland Browns take a quarterback with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft or won’t they?
The two top quarterbacks are Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward. However, what the Browns will do with the pick continues to be up in the air is they will force a quarterback selection, try to trade out of the pick, or perhaps stick to their board and take the best player available to them.
We have a bit of an insider battle between former ESPN draft analyst (now with The Ringer) Todd McShay and current ESPN insider Adam Schefter. After McShay had stated in a recent video he created that he had heard the Browns were not going to take a quarterback, Schefter has now come out and said the opposite.
Schefter was asked what he felt most certain about is that the Browns will take a quarterback at No. 2. His reasoning, however, had nothing to do with anything that he had heard but what he perceived to be what they have to do:
“The Cleveland Browns at No. 2 will wind up taking a quarterback because they have to. Because logic dictates that. Because common sense dictates that. Because they have Deshaun Watson, who you don’t even know is going to be able to play again in this upcoming season, hurt, having undergone another surgery on his torn achilles. You have all of the money invested in him, so you need financial relief and you need a quarterback.”
Of the many scenarios for the upcoming NFL Draft, the one that makes the most sense is Browns using their top pick on a quarterback.

It is, of course, too early for any certainty about what the Browns will do with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. Coming from an NFL insider as well, there are plenty of factors at play such as which NFL agents are giving Schefter the message to pass along, which teams could be leveraging for a trade-up (including the Browns), and more.
But if Schefter is right, either Ward or Sanders will be wearing the brown and orange next season.
