General manager Andrew Berry intends to keep Myles Garrett a member of the Cleveland Browns for the foreseeable future.
The future of First-Team All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year candidate, and legendary pass rusher Myles Garrett has been at the forefront of Cleveland Browns fans after a bad season left the team in a state of uncertainty. Whether or not the team would begin a rebuild or not would have a drastic impact on the 29-year-old defensive end and if he’d be a part of the team for the long haul or potentially part of a trade that would be the catalyst for a team restarting.
The Athletic’s Browns reporter Zac Jackson put fans at ease today by reporting that general manager Andrew Berry will not be trading Garrett this season.
He followed this up by saying an extension is in the works that will make Garrett one of the highest-paid players in NFL history, keeping him a Brown for the foreseeable future.
Tearing down the team and hitting reset now seems unlikely, and the front office does not seem to intend to sell off many assets as they did during the season with Amari Cooper and Za’Darius Smith.
Garrett initially suggested that no deal would be done until he heard from leadership about their plans to recover from a tough 2024 season, but if a hefty extension is already under works then it seems like he has bought into the front office’s plan to right the ship sooner rather than later.
The Browns have ample draft picks to add needed youth to the roster, but unless that involves selecting a quarterback with the 2nd overall pick, 2025 may still be a retooling year as the team waits out DeShaun Watson’s contract.
