Brian Callahan did not try to lure dad from Browns to Titans
Perhaps the biggest change for the Cleveland Browns this offseason is the loss of offensive line coach Bill Callahan. While switching out Alex Van Pelt for Ken Dorsey will remain in the headlines, Callahan’s departure will likely be felt.
That is no dig on new offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, who is just focused on being himself, but Callahan has been the league’s best offensive line coach for a long time.
For Browns fans, this offseason was a bit of a rollercoaster when it came to Callahan. Early reports immediately following Brian Callahan getting his first head coaching job were that father and son would not be working together. Brian even noted as much during his introductory press conference and at the NFL combine.
We now have a better idea of what led to Bill’s decision to join his dad specifically the timeline. Speaking to Adam Schefter, Brian noted that his dad didn’t play to coach for him until he watched his son’s introductory press conference. At that point, dad changed his mind and wanted to join his son:
Titans HC Brian Callahan said there was “no family discount” to hire his father, offensive line coach Bill Callahan, away from the Cleveland Browns.

While many were surprised that Cleveland did not demand compensation from the Tennessee Titans, the organization decided to honor the legendary coach and grant him his wish.
The performance of the Browns offensive line will be closely watched in 2024 after injuries and inconsistent play plagued the team last year. Whether or not letting Callahan depart was the right move goes well beyond football.
Does the timeline and what led Bill to change his mind impact how you feel about his departure?
