Browns have a tall task against Broncos Bo Nix who is competing with Jayden Daniels for Rookie of the year
The NFL is a fickle beast of a league. For a decade or more, the mantra was the NFL was a “coach and quarterback league.” That was slightly adjusted to “offensive play caller and quarterback league” recently only to see the return of the importance of the run game starting in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
As the Cleveland Browns saw this season, the QB position is still vital. After Deshaun Watson went out for the year, Jameis Winston led the team to two big AFC North victories.
In Bo Nix, the Denver Broncos seem to have found their quarterback. Many thought the Broncos reached for Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft but the former Oregon Duck and Auburn Tiger has completed 65% of his passes for over 2,500 yards with 16 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 12 games as a rookie.
The last three weeks have been even more impressive as shared by the NFL media communications:
Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix has eight touchdown passes with no interceptions for a 118.6 rating in his past three starts and joined Dak Prescott (Weeks 9-11, 2016) are the only rookie quarterbacks in NFL history with eight-or-more touchdown passes and zero interceptions in a three-game span.
While three games, and a rookie season, do not prove Nix’s long-term viability as a franchise quarterback, so far so good for Denver. Now the question is whether Nix can do enough to surpass Jayden Daniels for Rookie of the Year.
Besides passing the ball well, Nix has also rushed for 300 yards and four touchdowns.
