The San Francisco 49ers and WR Brandon Aiyuk have been in a dispute over his contract for the entirety of the 2024 NFL off-season. Coming off a career year, the former 1st round pick in 2020 reeled in 1,342 yards on 75 receptions and 7 TDs. Aiyuk formally requested a trade on July 16th, 2024, and is expected to be moved sooner rather than later.
The 49ers permitted Aiyuk to negotiate potential contracts with the Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders, and Pittsburgh Steelers. As of now, The Washington Commanders have reportedly “removed themselves” from trade talks, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are also not considered an option due to the asking price
. Matt Maiocco from NBC Sports Bay Area also reported that the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots have negotiated and agreed to the framework of a potential Aiyuk deal. If/when the deal is agreed upon, Aiyuk is expected to sign an extension worth upwards of 30 million dollars annually. Now, it’s up to Aiyuk to decide where he will end up. While he currently does not have a trade clause, he does have a say in where he goes due to San Francisco allowing him to choose his destination. New England has reportedly offered more money, but Cleveland offers Aiyuk the chance to win this season.
The specifics of both deals have yet to be released.
