New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel helped poach some of the coaching talent in Berea, but not in the way you think.
According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Browns’ assistant defensive line coach Jordan Thomas is expected to join Boston College as their new defensive line coach.
Thomas joined the Browns in 2022 as the team sought to modernize their defensive scheme. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz retained Thomas when he was hired. Before joining the Browns, Thomas was a successful defensive line coach for San Diego State under Brady Hoke.
Vrabel recommended Thomas to Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien Thamel, who reports they got close during their year with the team. The Browns expected and probably hoped they would suffer from a little brain drain after Vrabel was hired, but I doubt they expected it to come from the college ranks.
Thomas sounds like a bright coach with experience working with some of the best defensive minds in the sport’s history. He now gets the opportunity to work under Tim Lewis and O’Brien.
The Browns must add an assistant defensive line coach to their coaching search, including a tight end coach and a quarterback coach.
