The Browns are at a fork in the road searching for a new offensive coordinator
So far the Cleveland Browns have gone about their offensive coordinator search in a methodical fashion. In the first week, the Browns have reportedly interviewed the following five candidates:
- Tommy Rees
- Darrell Bevell
- Kevin Koger
- Charles London
- Klint Kubiak
At the moment, it appears that Kubiak could be the favorite to land the job but he’s also scheduled to meet with the Seattle Seahawks for an interview later today. Cleveland will certainly follow their process of casting a wide enough net and it never hurts to gain intel from speaking to multiple candidates.
Now that the Wild Card round of the playoffs is over, there could be additional coaches from teams that lost and are now available for interviews. Two potential fits who’d be interesting to discuss the role with would be Minnesota’s Josh McCown and Adam Stenavich of Green Bay.
We are all familiar with McCown who is the Vikings’ QB coach and has done an outstanding job with Sam Darnold this season and was listed as one of our initial six candidates for the role. The OC title would be a promotion for McCown and therefore the Browns could hire him without giving him play-calling duties.
Stenavich on the other hand, already has the OC title with the Packers but head coach Matt Lafleur calls the plays. To hire him away, Kevin Stefanski would need to give him the responsibility of calling plays.
He has been instrumental in the success of the Packers offense over the past few seasons and has also been requested to interview by the Bears for their head coach opening.
These are two names to watch if the Browns want to broaden their search. I’d also expect them to be in demand as some of the other coaching dominoes begin to fall in place across the league.
What do you think? Should the Browns expand their search and do you think either would fit in Cleveland? Let us know in the comments below.
