The Cleveland Browns concluded their pre-season schedule with a 32-33 loss at Arrowhead to the Kansas City Chiefs.
ON OFFENSE: Cleveland starting quarterback Deshaun Watson went 5-10 for 92 yards. Watson made some good passes, including a nice pass to wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, a broken play to a wide-open Amari Cooper and his best pass in the corner of the endzone for a touchdown to tight-end David Njoku.
Watson missed a few passes but looked good for the most part. I’m glad the Browns chose to play Watson.

ON DEFENSE: Another great game by the starting defense. The Browns defense intercepted Kansas City three times. Juan Thornhill had a pick-six in the first quarter. Rodney McLeod and Caleb Biggers both got interceptions.

The defensive line continues to put good pressure on the QB’s. One thing I’m seeing different in this defense, compared to year’s past, is Cleveland is getting more A-gap pressure on the quarterbacks. A-gap is where you get pressure through the center and guards of the offensive line. Quarterbacks don’t like pressure in general, but they really don’t like getting pressured up the middle and in their face. The Browns are doing more of that so far and getting better at that.
FINAL THOUGHTS: The pre-season is now over. For the most part, Cleveland stayed healthy through an extended pre-season. Cleveland was able to get extended playing time and more work than normal.
Everything for this season, as we all know, depends on how QB Deshaun Watson plays. That is why I’m glad they played him more than normal.
The Browns now get two weeks to prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals in their home-opener at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
