The Cleveland Browns have hired Mike Bloomgren as their new offensive line coach.
Expeditiously after firing former offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, the Browns have made the move to bring in his replacement without any sense of patience. Bloomgren was recently fired as the head coach of the Rice football team despite leading them to back-to-back bowl games in 2022 and 2023.
Bloomgren has a diverse coaching background. He started as a graduate assistant at Alabama in 1999, worked his way into an offensive quality control and assistant offensive coordinator role with the New York Jets under Rex Ryan, and was the offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at Stanford during the era when quarterback Andrew Luck and running back Christian McCaffrey were both Heisman finalists.
As the Browns look to get back to their wide zone roots, which all of their offensive linemen are advocating for, this is a step in that direction. We’ll see if the Browns hire a new offensive coordinator at a similar pace as this.
