The Cleveland Browns have interviewed New York Giants assistant quarterback coach Christian Jones, according to Tom Pelissero.
The Browns have not had a dedicated quarterback coach under Kevin Stefanski. The role has been filled by whomever the offensive coordinator is with assistant quarterback coach Ashton Grant helping out.
Jones is an intelligent and experienced coach. He started his NFL career under Stefanski with the Minnesota Vikings in 2019. In 2020, the Vikings promoted Jones to assistant wide receivers coach. The Vikings fired head coach Mike Zimmer in 2022 and let Jones and the rest of the staff go.
Jones was hired by the Giants in 2022 and has spent the previous three seasons underneath Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka. The two coaches are well respected across the league for their offensive systems. Jones may be the perfect candidate for a Browns’ team trying to remain true to Stefanski’s system while evolving to meet the demands of the current league.
A dedicated quarterback coach would be a step forward for the Browns. The role would allow the Browns to free up offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ time to get him involved in every room instead of staying with the quarterbacks. The team must do everything possible to improve from an awful 2024 campaign.
