All the rumors coming out of the NFL combine point in one direction
A lot went down in Indianapolis, Indiana in the last week as the NFL combine took center stage. The NFL draft will get knocked off that stage next week when the league year opens and NFL free agency gets going.
You can keep up with all of our NFL draft coverage as well as all of the rumors related to the Cleveland Browns that have been flying lately on our site. Everything seems to be pointing at the Browns attacking the quarterback position with a veteran and a rookie. While Kirk Cousins seems inevitable, getting a veteran early in the process will be helpful for Cleveland.
Coming out of the NFL combine, everyone believes that the Browns are locked in to drafting QB Cam Ward. If Cleveland had the first overall pick, those rumors would hold more water at this point. Given that is what everyone, or almost everyone is saying, we bring you our Browns Mock Draft with Ward as their first selection:
1st Round
QB Cam Ward, Miami
Ward is considered by most the top quarterback in the draft but his fit in a timing and rhythm offense is questionable. The upside is clearly there but is Cleveland trying to bait someone to trade up to the top pick so a different player falls to them?
2nd Round
TE Harold Fannin Jr., BGSU
Fannin tested well and has the upside that the Browns are looking for this early. Adding him here allows Kevin Stefanski to go back to his two tight end sets far more often.
3rd Round
RB Quinshon Judkins, The Ohio State University
No matter what happens with Nick Chubb, Cleveland needs more running back help. Judkins measured well at the NFL combine even if he is selected a round behind teammate TreVeyon Henderson.
DT/DE Shemar Turner, Texas A&M
A bit of a “tweener,” Turner falls due to his lack of length but can find success in Jim Schwartz’s system at multiple positions.
4th Round
OT Ozzy Trapilo, Boston College
Got to take a swing on a tackle somewhere in the draft and Trapilo has the size to be developed.
5th Round
OL Jonah Monheim, USC
Continuing to build on the lines later in the draft, Monheim could be a starter by year two in the league and provides the Browns with depth.
6th Round
LB Jack Kiser, Notre Dame
DT Ty Hamilton, The Ohio State University
WR Jimmy Horn Jr., Colorado
S Maxen Hook, Toledo
RB Jo’Quavious Marks, USC
A lot of picks and a lot of talent added here with individual traits that we liked. Kiser is very good in pass defense, Hamilton against the run and Horn is a slot receiver that could become a returner. A local product, Hook can help on special teams while Marks is a very good receiving back.
7th Round
CB Robert Longerbeam, Rutgers
GM Andrew Berry gets cornerbacks so we found one at the end of this draft. Longerbeam has a strong athletic profile despite a smaller build.
