Since being the first overall selection, Myles Garrett has been a sack machine for the Browns
When the Cleveland Browns finished with just one victory in 2016 and won the right to select DE Myles Garrett, almost everyone around the league knew he would be a success. Seen as a unique prospect that couldn’t miss, Garrett was set to join a team that couldn’t win. In Garrett’s rookie season, Cleveland didn’t win a single game but stud defender had seven sacks in just 11 games and looked like a force on the field.
Since coming into the NFL, the Browns defender has met expectations including winning Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. He continued to prove to everyone how great he is on Thursday Night Football in Week 12 of the 2024 NFL season.
In his eighth season in the NFL, Garrett has 98.5 sacks in 111 games including seven straight years of double-digit takedowns of quarterbacks. According to NFL media communications, Garrett could join legends of the game in Week 13 with 1.5 more sacks:
become the third-fastest player since 1982 to reach 100 career sacks, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware (113 games). Only Pro Football Hall of Famer Reggie White (96 games) and T.J. Watt (109) reached the mark faster.
become the fifth player since 1982 with at least 100 sacks in his first eight career seasons, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Reggie White (124 sacks) and DeMarcus Ware (111) as well as Jared Allen (105) and T.J. Watt (104, in eighth season).
Not only joining that exclusive company but Garrett has a month to get 1.5 more sacks to become the youngest player to ever reach that mark.
