Shockingly, Amari Cooper has more drops than all but 3 teams in the league
Everyone wants to know what is wrong with the Cleveland Browns offense in 2024. The answer, as with most things, is probably more complicated than just one thing. Given his off-the-field track record, position and contract, QB Deshaun Watson will get most of the blame.
While Watson notes that others who critique him are not in the film room (and the Browns seem to be sticking by him), the quarterback shares some of the blame.
Cleveland’s offensive line has also given up the most quick pressure in the NFL while dealing with a myriad of injuries. Amari Cooper and his pass-catching teammates share some of the blame as well:
Teams with the most passes dropped this season:
Browns – 14
Giants – 10
Packers – 6
Rams – 6
Titans – 5
Cardinals – 5
Jets – 5
Chargers – 5 pic.twitter.com/jHHTV8xAg7— NFL Stats (@NFL_Stats) September 26, 2024
Fact-checking that Browns stat with Pro Football Reference, we see that Cooper has as many or more drops as 30 of the other 31 teams in the NFL with six. Elijah Moore and Pierre Strong are next on the list with two each while Jerry Jeudy, Jerome Ford, David Njoku and Cedric Tillman (a big one in Week 3) all have one drop a piece.
To round out the offensive woes, the team is bottom third in rushing yards per game at this point as well.
While Cleveland fans are ready to abandon ship with Watson, the offense has struggled everywhere including the usually reliable Cooper.
