Cleveland Browns franchise star cornerback Denzel Ward calls out EA’s Madden over the latest update.
Madden’s latest update included multiple additions to their Superstar X-Factor player pool. Ward, the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL, was rebuffed after seeing he was left off their list. Ward went on X to play up his snub from the superstar list.
Ward wrote that Madden is his favorite football game. However, his exclusion:
“Highway Robbery, Ultra Disrespect, Ignorance, Highly Insane, Outrageous and every other big word you can think of
. Someone over there need to cut on the tape! #Teachtape”
Ward made sure to tag former Pro Bowl receiver, and Madden ratings adjuster Chad Johnson in his complaint. Ward also included his top grade in single coverage according to PFF, and his league-leading 15 pass breakups last season.
Ward had an impressive 2024 campaign. Ward was a lock-down cornerback most of the season. He remained healthy for most of the year, missing one game and leaving two more before they ended. Ward improved at the catch-point last season. He led the NFL in pass breakups but only had two interceptions on the season.
Cornerbacks are too often judged on turnovers, largely built on lucky outcomes. That’s why it’s so rare to see consistently great cornerback play. Fans and media alike want to see cornerbacks stuff the stat sheet. However, the best cornerbacks are usually not targeted enough to amass those stats.
Ward fell victim to a barren stat sheet this season. Last season he was one of the best cornerbacks and deserved a spot on an All-Pro team. Ward is continuing to be snubbed after a superb season. Hopefully, Madden will check the tapes and give Ward the reward he deserves.
