The Cleveland Browns want to bring Joe Flacco back for next season but they may have some competition for his services.
Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the New England Patriots have serious interest in signing Flacco once the new league year starts in mid-March.
“I’m hearing the Patriots are interested in possibly signing Flacco as a bridge starter to help mentor a rookie quarterback if they select one at No. 3 overall, such as North Carolina’s Drake Maye,” Cabot wrote.
That move would make a lot of sense as the Patriots try and retool their quarterback room for next season. They’re expected to draft a quarterback at No. 3 overall but it depends on which one is there.
The Browns want to bring Flacco back after how good of a job he did filling in for Deshaun Watson. He went 4-1 as the starter down the stretch and helped the Browns make the playoffs.
He finished with 1,616 yards through the air, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He showed that he has plenty left in the tank heading into the 2024 season.
It was his first NFL action since he played for the New York Jets in 2022.
