Nathaniel Watson was active in both games this year playing 33 snaps on special teams
The Cleveland Browns roster is back to having just one Watson (Deshaun Watson) on it after the team announced that they have waived LB Nathaniel Watson on Thursday. Just days before the Browns face off with the New York Giants, the sixth-round pick from the 2024 NFL draft can be claimed by any team with a need.
The move is interesting for a couple of reasons starting with the fact that Cleveland placed two linebackers on injured reserve last week. Watson had also played 33 special teams snaps in the first two weeks of the season, fourth-most on the team.
Watson was the fourth player selected by the Browns in this year’s draft and the second to be waived joining DT Jowon Briggs who didn’t make the initial 53-man. Like Briggs already has been, Watson could return to Cleveland’s practice squad if he is not claimed.
The Browns also waived S Chase Williams off of injured reserve.
Cleveland did not announce a move to fill Watson’s roster spot at the time of his being waived.
How surprised are you that Watson (given linebacker injuries and his use on special teams) was waived today?
