Javion Cohen, Trey Dean among 9 added to Browns roster from their practice squad
The real fireworks in the NFL’s offseason schedule are some time away but, as is true during the NFL season, front offices are constantly working in the league. Legal tampering for NFL free agency hits on March 10th but teams that are eliminated from the playoffs can sign any unrestricted free agent that ended the regular season as a free agent or as a member of a non-playoff team’s practice squad.
Those players are signed to “futures/reserve contracts” for when rosters move from 53-man to 90-man versions for the offseason.
The Cleveland Browns signed nine members or former members of their practice squad to these types of deals on Monday:
- OL Javion Cohen
- S Trey Dean
- DE Marcus Haynes
- OL Roy Mbaeteka (IPPP)
- TE Tre’ McKitty
- OL Julian Pearl
- DE Elerson Smith
- K Andre Szmyt
- OL Lorenzo Thompson
Smith was active for two games and Cohen was active for one game this season.
