Jimmy Haslam and Cleveland’s mayor continue to try to use public statements in Browns stadium drama
In a battle between politicians and a billionaire, there are no winners. The losers, at least along the way, are the fans of the Cleveland Browns and those who live in the area. On Tuesday, The Haslam Sports Group (owners of the Browns) released a statement and a new video about their plan to build a new stadium in Brook Park.
The statement included an update on funding plans and hope for making the stadium state-of-the-art and unique.
Despite legal battles, the Haslams are standing their ground and moving forward. The funding conversation has been a key component for fans and the community as public funds being used for a billionaire’s stadium doesn’t sit right with most people.
So many details, so many discussion points, lawsuits, studies and more.
A day after the release of their statement and video, Cleveland’s Mayor Justin Bibb released his own statement which included calling the Haslam plan a “scheme:”
The Haslams made misleading statements about the diligent work the city has done over the past three years to revitalize the lakefront, protect taxpayer dollars, & keep football on the lakefront. They want to squander taxpayer dollars to invest over a $1 billion into a domed… pic.twitter.com/DGPhVwsLTc

Given Haslam’s history with an FBI investigation into a rebate scheme, the use of that word seems very purposeful and personal.
There is a scheduled new conference for 4:30 PM Wednesday afternoon where Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronyayne will speak about the Haslams’ plans for the Browns stadium and take questions from the media.
How do you feel about politicians and The Haslam Sports Group sending out press releases or having press conferences in their fight about the new Browns stadium? What do you think the outcome should be? What do you think the outcome will be?
