The Browns have interviewed former Eagles OC’ Brian Johnson for their open Offensive Coordinator vacancy today. Johnson, who had a key role in developing Eagles QB Jalen Hurts served as the teams (Eagles) OC last season. Prior to his time as the OC, Johnson served as the team’s Quarterbacks coach from 2021-2022 and has worked mostly at the college level. In his first and only season as the OC with the Eagles the team ranked 8th in overall yards per game but the team struggled down the stretch due to poor offensive & defensive performances. With Johnson at the helm QB Jalen Hurts struggled with 23 touchdowns to 15 INTS which is the most in his career so far and the Eagles lost in their first playoff game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This interview has upset a lot of fans due to the poor performance last season but being put in control with a good staff and being able to design an offense around a talented group could help Johnson and the Browns build the offense(s) they’ve been waiting to see!
On Thursday, the Browns also requested to interview Chargers OC Kellen Moore for their Offensive coordinator opening. Moore will be in town tomorrow to interview for the position. During his time in Los Angeles, they ranked 18th in the league in offensive efficiency but were hurt by bad defense and an injury riddled QB Justin Herbert. Moore has led explosive offenses in Dallas that have produced at very high levels! This should be a very interesting interview and it could turn the Browns offense into a massive juggernaut.
