Well, when your team is 1-5 on the season in football terms it’s time for tanking and that’s exactly what the Cleveland Browns did this afternoon. The club traded wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills and a 6th-round pick (from Detroit) in return for a ’25 3rd-round pick and ’26 7th-round pick.
This season in The Land, Cooper has 24 catches for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Very pedestrian numbers compared to his career stats with the Cowboys and Raiders since he started playing in 2025. Keep in mind he has Deshaun Watson as his quarterback here in Cleveland this season so far…yikes.
Cooper, now 30 years old, heads to a Buffalo team that is 4-2 in the AFC East and a clear playoff contender compared to the direct opposite here in Cleveland. It was certainly time for this team to make a change and this was it. Despite being very well-liked among these parts, it needed to happen.
What did Cooper say about the trade – via SB Nation?
“[Browns general manager] Andrew Berry called me and told me what was going on,” Cooper told Josina Anderson. “As far as playing with Josh [Allen] I’ve always been fan of his game. I’m sure to see it up close and personal and play alongside him, I’m sure it’s going to be great. I’ve been in this situation before, so that helps. I’m just excited to turn a new chapter and to be able to contribute.”
This appears to be a win-win deal with the current circumstances and we are wishing Amari Cooper the best now playing for a contender compared to a lackluster Browns team, which is in chaos as a whole.
Cleveland must capitalize on these two added picks in order to improve this struggling team for the future. We’ll see what selections end up being made in the coming years from this deal.
Look for this not to be the last trade the Browns make to benefit their future and rid themselves of star players now. Amari, thanks for your 2.5 seasons here in Cleveland and best of luck to you in the future. You certainly will not be forgotten as a member of the Browns. That’s for sure.
Cooper’s last game with Cleveland was in Philadelphia for four catches and 42 yards total. A 20-16 loss on the 13th of October.
