After Browns star Nick Chubb suffered a season ending knee injury in a 26-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night, the Browns placed Nick Chubb on injured reserve opening a roster spot for an additional running back.
Hunt was originally drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft by Kansas City and played two years with the Chiefs. In fact, in his rookie season, Hunt gained 1,327 yards and scored 11 touchdowns.
In his six year NFL career, Hunt has gained 4,025 rushing yards while averaging 4.5 yards per carry. In addition, he has amassed 31 career rushing touchdowns and has caught 17 touchdown passes throughout his time with the Chiefs and Browns.
After signing with the Browns on Tuesday, Hunt spoke to the media.
“You know it’s quite exciting I guess because, you know, I’m from Cleveland, born and raised, like I always say,” said Hunt. “And I still want to bring a championship here and help contribute. That was my biggest goal for the past four years to do everything I can to you know, bring one to the hometown. So, it feels good. They have a great team. The team is great. Love the defense, love the offense that we have. And I’m excited to see us put it all together and gel it together and keep working to get to the end goal.”
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski also talked about signing Hunt and what Hunt’s role will be in this Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
“Jerome (Ford) is the lead back, but we have to work through all those type of things. And what Kareem’s ready to do this week you know, if he’s ready to go this week and what type of load he can carry. So I think we need to work through all of that. But, yes, Jerome is the starter.”
Cleveland, 1-1 on the season, will host the Tennessee Titans at Cleveland Browns Stadium at 1pm on Sunday afternoon.
