A popular topic from social media brings us a fun question for the Browns looking back at their history
As the Cleveland Browns look to finish strong over their final six games, an intriguing question was posed on social media by a draft guru who covers the NFL.
ESPN draft analyst Matt Miller asked: If you could add one RETIRED player to your favorite NFL team for the rest of this season, who are you adding?
It’s a fun question to ponder but you immediately run into a bit of a conundrum trying to answer it. Does the player have to be someone who can realistically play now, or is it a hypothetical situation and you can just add a player from their prime?
Miller didn’t specify and got both types of answers within the replies. However, he did say that Shaq Barrett’s coming out of retirement inspired the idea:
Shaq Barrett coming out of retirement got me thinking: If you could add one RETIRED player to your favorite NFL team for the rest of this season, who are you adding?

Nonetheless, many offered up players like Aaron Donald and Tom Brady as realistic options and others brought up former greats like Deion Sanders, Shannon Sharpe, and Dan Marino.
From a Browns’ perspective, an interesting idea that has floated around over several years has been the fantasy of Joe Thomas returning from retirement to man left tackle once again. If we are bringing back players in their prime in this magical scenario, Bernie Kosar, Eric Metcalf, Ozzie Newsome, Jim Brown and Clay Matthews come to mind quickly. With Dustin Hopkins’ struggles this year, Lou Groza or Phil Dawson would work as well.
Our topic of today’s Dawg Pound Discourse is the question Miller posed above. Who would you bring out of retirement to play for the Browns? Let us know in the comments below.
