The Browns have taken a minimalistic approach to adding to the roster.
There has been no news for the Cleveland Browns ever since Russell Wilson visited Berea a week ago. Now that the Minnesota Vikings have ruled out signing Aaron Rodgers, we shall see if that leads him to a decision about where he’d like to play next. Wilson may be the best option remaining if he were to choose the Browns, but the New York Giants also have interest.
We never expected that Cleveland would be big spenders in free agency but the lack of a solid veteran who can start at QB has forced us to envision a world where Kenny Pickett could be the guy in Week One. General manager Andrew Berry has been known for his ability to strike deals and acquire exciting players through trades and has yet to deliver one of his signature “laser eyes” transactions.
Coming off one of the most disappointing seasons since the team’s return, most hoped to see a more aggressive approach to improving the team. Now that the free agency cupboard is empty, Browns fans have turned their attention to the upcoming draft.
Coming into the offseason, there was optimism that two quarterbacks were capable of being franchise saviors and that the Browns would at least get one of them with the second overall pick. Now, after weeks of further evaluation, it appears that Cam Ward has separated himself from Shedeur Sanders by a country mile (in the eyes of the public) and appears poised to go number one overall to the Tennessee Titans.
If the Browns select Sanders at two, many analysts will claim that the team over-drafted him and missed out on better players overall. To top all of this off, you’ve been forced to accept that Nick Chubb would likely sign elsewhere but the fact that he hasn’t had any significant offers from other teams now deflates your hopes of him ever being the back he once was even if he returns to the Browns on a minimal deal.
Getting an extension done with Myles Garrett was a huge win for the organization. For fans, his entire trade request was an opportunity to be traumatized by every mock trade proposal we were forced to read daily.
Now, we want to hear from you. What has your experience been this offseason as a fan? Has it been a letdown after last year’s on-field debacle? Let us know in the comments below.
