Day two of the NFL draft is in the books and here’s a quick look at the Browns’ selections.
Pick Number 68. CB Martin Emerson, Miss. St. (6’2″, 201 lbs.). A three-year starter with a coverage grade of 89.6 which was the highest grade in the SEC since 2020. He was targeted in 2021 50 times out of 375 coverage snaps (13.3%). Allowed only one reception over 25 yards. Tall physical corner who is very athletic and an active run defender. Very durable played in 36 consecutive games. A regular on special teams.
Pick Number 78. DE Alex Wright, UAB. (6’5″, 271 lbs.). A three-year starter who is still learning his position. Has great movement for his size and length. Can be disruptive in both the passing game and the running game. His last season at UAB was his best, registering 46 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and three passes defended.
Pick Number 99. WR David Bell, Purdue. (6’0″, 212 lbs.). A three-year starter who is a polished route runner. Great hands, hardly drops a pass, (4.7 career drop rate). Tracks and adjusts to the ball extremely well. In 2021 had 1286 receiving yards averaging 116.9 yards per game. Saved his best against the Big Ten’s best, vs. Ohio St, with 11 catches for 103 yards, vs. MSU 11 catches for 217 yards, vs. Iowa 11 catches for 240 yards and vs, Notre Dame with seven catches for 64 yards.
The Browns have six picks heading into day three, 108, 118, 124, 202, 223 & 246. There are still needs at offensive line, defensive tackle, safety, tight end and possibly linebacker. The gap between pick number 124 and pick number 202 might be an opportunity for GM Andrew Berry to move up using seventh-round picks.
On to day three.
