It’s one thing when we say it, but now you have players saying it.
Teammates tried to be good soldiers and support QB Deshaun Watson over the past couple of years through all of his struggles. As the end of the 2024 season approached, Myles Garrett strayed from saying anything negative about the quarterback position, but also made it clear that at this point in his career, he doesn’t want to go through another rebuild.
Now, we have a star player who definitively says that the Browns “need to solidify the quarterback position.”
The quote came from CB Denzel Ward, who was in New York City when a TMZ reporter stopped him for a brief chat:

Ward was asked whether the team needs a good quarterback, or if they should be rebuilding the entire roster.
“I think we need a great quarterback, for real. The NFL starts with that quarterback position. Once you get that solidified, the rest of the team is going to follow and carry along. I don’t think we’re too far off, we just need to solidify that position though.”
The reporter then threw QB Geno Smith’s name out there to Ward, asking if he’d like him on the Browns:
“He’s solid. He’s a solid quarterback. Until we get people in the building, I’m still rolling with the people we’ve got there [in Cleveland]. [Geno] is a good quarterback, though. If he comes to the team though, I would like that.”
Finally, the reporter then asked about something that “Garrett Myles” said, which kind of throws their sports credibility out the window — but Ward again re-iterated the point that the team needs to solidify the quarterback position.
I think it’s going to be easier for Browns players to speak out on the quarterback position, now that they know that Watson likely won’t be part of the team’s on-field product after tearing his Achilles’ for a second time.
