The last things fans in Cleveland need after last season is another Deshaun Watson injury scare.
After missing a good deal of 2023 with a shoulder injury, the Browns quarterback participated in David Njoku’s charity softball game where at one-point he reportedly collided with tight end Zaire Mitchell-Paden while attempting to catch a fly ball.
Per longtime NFL writer Mary Kay Cabot: “#Browns Deshaun Watson just gave the crowd at David Njoku’s softball game a scare. Playing 1st base, he caught a popup and collided w/#Browns TE Zaire Mitchell-Paden, playing 2nd base. He got up and signaled he was fine, and has been greeting fans near the dugout.”
Fans reacted to the play on social media.
“He’s definitely going to need a massage after the game,” a radio show joked.
“Soooo after he has two bad games it’s going to be revealed that he actually damaged something during this collision…great!” a user replied.
“Where was the damn bubble wrap??!!” a fan asked.
“Why was he even playing just coming off a major surgery?” another person wondered. “Smh.”
“This would be the most Browns thing ever to lose Watson for multiple games because of a charity softball game.”
Hopefully there don’t end up being any long-term effects. The Browns open the season with a home game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
