The Cleveland Browns are demonstrating their unwavering commitment to winning, even if it means making significant financial investments. On Wednesday, the Browns took a decisive step in this direction. They recognized the exceptional talent of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, one of the team’s top defensive players and rewarded him with a three-year, $39 million extension, with a guaranteed $25 million. This bold move underscores the Browns’ determination to succeed.
It’s undoubtedly a smart move from the front office. The Browns are trying to build a championship culture in Cleveland. The Browns haven’t returned to the playoffs but aim for something bigger: SUPER BOWL. The franchise has yet to win a Super Bowl. Defense wins championships. Therefore, you need to keep every talent you have on defense. Browns’ defense is excellent, but it has the potential to be great. Wouldn’t it be great if the Browns could someday belong in the same class as the 1985 Chicago Bears, 2000 Baltimore Ravens, 2002 Tampa Bay Bucs, or even the 2013 Seattle Seahawks?
The defensive line needs to fill some key pieces. We are seeing some improvement. The front office must continue holding the ball and not dropping it.
JOK must remain healthy and continue to produce. If he delivers, then the extension was worth it. The No. 52 overall pick from Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the 2021 NFL Draft had a successful 2023 campaign. Koramoah had a career-high 101 combined tackles, 3.5 sacks, 20 tackles for loss, five QB hits, six passes defended and his first two NFL interceptions. These accomplishments led him to make his first trip to the Pro Bowl. Former linebacker Luke Kuechly was the last player to record that amount of tackles in 2018.
JOK is an amazing talent. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the 2024 season. His defensive game is very versatile and can be a problem for the opposite team’s offense.
