Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar provided an update on his health this week. Unfortunately, it’s not a positive one.
Not only is Kosar battling cirrhosis of the liver, he’s been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
Cleveland Magazine was told by one of Kosar’s doctors that there is “more than a 90% chance” that he’ll need a new liver. He was placed on the liver transplant list earlier this year.
Kosar has been very honest about his health situation over the years. In 2023, he revealed that he suffered 15 seizures in his life.
“I was on probably 50-plus pills for 25 plus years – this whole century – trying to figure out a protocol and options that allow me to have a healthy lifestyle where I’m able to articulate, enunciate and communicate multiple syllable words,” Kosar said. “It wasn’t always like that.”
Despite how bleak things may appear at times, Kosar tries his best to remain optimistic.
“I strongly believe in the power of positive thinking,” Kosar told Cleveland Magazine. “For me, it’s not just a slogan. I believe that positive energy can be manifested in our brains, and I love to live in the space of positivity. I want to think about things that are helpful. It sounds like I’m getting on a soap box here, but I visualize good health. It’s not so much that I’m trying to sell it to myself, or that I’m in denial, as it is choosing to be positive. Because everybody’s got something. We’ve all got health issues to some degree, we all have bumps in the road.”
We’re certainly wishing Kosar all the best.
