It’s certainly an interesting time to be a Cleveland Browns fan after the team was able to upset the Baltimore Ravens at home by a score of 29-24. It made their record 2-6, nothing to brag about or anything.
What was different about this game is that Jameis Winston was the starting quarterback instead of Deshaun Watson. He’s been out with a torn Achilles that he recently had successful surgery on.
It was quite the controversy this past week when some Browns fans were cheering after the Watson injury against the Bengals.
If I was Deshaun Watson…
Well, if interviewed I would pretend to be supportive of the team no matter what – blah blah blah. However, let’s be honest. The man had to have wanted to see the Browns do completely terrible without him as the pass thrower. That’s what I would’ve wanted if I was him – call me bitter.
Sure, Watson will be getting a weekly check for millions of dollars to do absolutely nothing now and that is probably nice for him. But here he is seeing Jameis and company beat a pretty great divisional Ravens team in front of that same home crowd and they didn’t need any of his services. It proved in a lot of ways that the problems with these Browns stemmed from the quarterback position and him as the man in charge of that spot.
Now, honestly, anyone who had any opinion that it “wasn’t the quarterback” likely has changed their mind after seeing how Winston shined this week with three touchdowns and 344 yards passing on 27-41 throwing. Also, the man has excitement, enthusiasm and passion like nobody I’ve ever seen. Whether it be motivating his teammates or being interviewed by reporters, it’s such a wild difference. Plus, WINNING the game – wow! There’s a change in these parts.
The funniest part and this is of course it could change and I bite my tongue next week. But the funniest thing is that Deshaun CAN’T say, “Ha, I told you so!” The problem was a big part to do with the quarterback as proven this past week with the victory.
Also, just the dynamic. We went from literally a quarterback getting cheered by his home fans while lying on the ground injured and carted off…to a QB who is loved by everyone and then some.
If I’m Deshaun Watson I am so salty with the circumstance. He should find a unique and fun way to spend his millions with all the free time he now has… Actually, hang on. That’s a bad idea. Stay safe and alone, champ.
The expectation is that we probably will never see Watson in Brown and Orange again but one never knows.
Sucks to suck…and be hurt…and be hated by everyone.
