Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a 2023 fifth-round draft pick for the Browns, is projected to make the first start of his career against the Cincinnati Bengals.
DTR has played in other games this season, including the Browns’ most recent fare against the Kansas City Chiefs where he completed four of his nine passes and accumulated 19 total passing yards, tossing in an interception to put the cherry on top.
From looking at his stats alone this season thus far, it would be easy to say he is not going to do well. However, the Browns have barely seen him play at the quarterback position at all, and he hasn’t started and played through a full game in his entire career.
In his final year with UCLA in 2022, DTR threw for 3,169 yards and 27 touchdowns. While, yes, it was in school and the NFL is certainly a significant step up from college football, those stats still netted him a chance to get drafted. The Browns could certainly use a player like 2022 DTR to help them with their QB room ailments.
The Browns additionally went 2-5 under Winston. It’s become apparent that there is a need for another QB change in Cleveland, and DTR could serve to be the guy.
His first game should not be an indicator of how he would perform for the rest of the season as the starter. While the Bengals have one of the most porous defenses in the league this year, it will still take time for DTR to get adjusted to being the starter.
However, if I had to make a prediction as to how his first game of the season would go, I believe it would go something along the lines of 175-200 passing yards and one or two passing touchdowns. Browns fans shouldn’t expect much out of DTR in his first start of the season.
Nonetheless, the Browns need a spark at the quarterback position, and they are hoping DTR can do that for them.
