It wasn’t a dream.
A lot of fans take pride in their hatred of Deshaun Watson due to morals. For me, it’s a type of deal where winning would cure all. And frankly, that hasn’t happened this year in Cleveland either. A lot of bad NFL people are great players and it helps everything. “Winning cures all.” Right?
Watching Deshaun Watson out on the field Sunday and it was clear that the man simply doesn’t care about this team. It may be rooted in Kevin Stefanski’s coaching or Ken Dorsey’s offense or he may not have a belief in Cleveland and what’s happening here overall.
The Browns are 1-4 and haven’t scored over 20 points in a game this season (the single win was 18-13 over the Jaguars in week two)
Besides talent, having that belief in what’s happening is the biggest key for any team not just football but in sports in general. And that’s the exact opposite of this franchise overall and it’s very apparent to see after Sunday’s 34-13 beatdown in Washington by the Commanders.
According to Fansided, the Browns now have a 14% chance to make the playoffs with the current record moving forward. Honestly, even that might be generous…
Of course, Watson still has this massive contract and an amount of money owed to him. Usually, teams with a 1-4 record are a bunch of players with contracts that either are worth very little or are based on the future. Watson was given that cash for the “now” and it isn’t happening. Also odd is the head coach and general manager of this team just received extensions and thus it’s not like most 1-4 teams where those two slots would be on hot seats too.
With all of that said, as a Browns fan I want to see this team regroup and start to play passionate football as the season progresses. Find a way to build some momentum, show that this franchise does actually care and start playing for the rest of this year instead of just already looking towards 2025.
The other debate is that tanking is better to get that top pick and go from there. Trade players like WR Amari Cooper and others to get even more top selections for the future.
The next game for the Dawgs is in the Fighting City of Philadelphia against the 2-2 Eagles, then home versus the 1-4 Bengals and home against the 3-2 Ravens. What’s crazy is if the Browns win all three of those game, everyone will be talking differently about this season and the then 4-4 Browns. That’s a very unlikely scenario but there’s a reason the games are played.
The NFL Trade Deadline is on November 5th. That’ll be quite an interesting time here in Cleveland unless these outcomes change drastically.
