The Cleveland Browns lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers by a score of 27-14 and it was a disappointing affair on every level. Yes, one could argue when your kicker misses two field goals, that isn’t going to help.
But let’s be honest.
Our friend Jameis Winston is entertaining, gives great interviews and has an intense connection with his religion. Lovely to watch. Additionally, he’s not half bad at quarterback, either.
Against the Steelers, Winston went 24/41 for 212 yards. However, it was the two interceptions by our friend that were extremely killer for the Browns in this horrific loss to Pittsburgh.
The Dawgs will have a choice to make next season with Deshaun Watson recovering from his injury and the NFL closing its investigation on him. Yes, most fans dislike the player and he was terrible this season, to begin with, before the Achilles injury.
Let’s say that for the rest of this season, Winston plays absolutely fantastically with no interceptions or any losses. That could give the Browns a reason to keep him on the roster with a contract signing this offseason. It would put Watson in the backup position and give Winston the chance to be the starter next year.
Unfortunately, every good moment is followed by mistakes such as interceptions or misreads that make any chance to win these games less likely. It was shown in Sunday’s loss to the Steelers and previous games, such as the loss to Denver of 41-32.
It’s not as if a recovered Deshaun Watson is going to magically lead this team to the playoffs in the coming years. In reality, it appears like it’ll take the eventual drafting of a future starter for years to come to bring any type of success to these parts.
On Sunday, the Browns were officially eliminated for any chance to make it to the playoffs. The interceptions thrown by Winston continue to prove that despite some success seen, it’s just not possible for a future that leads the Browns to said playoffs with Jameis Winston at quarterback.
The Browns have four games remaining. Next week, at home against Kansas City, then in Cincinnati against the Bengals, home against Miami and finally in Baltimore versus the Ravens to close out the season. Sure, there might be some “hot spots” with Winston as the quarterback to close it out. Just remember what it really takes for a title contender compared to a quarterback who is at a continuous risk of making mistakes and throwing interceptions is not going to happen.
What do I do?
Go with Watson at quarterback. You idiots paid him, right? BUT – see if Winston will re-sign and agree to be a backup for the Browns with his flamboyant ways. However, another team may be interested in him as a starter. Good luck…it’s a rollercoaster
Let the team continue to grow and develop and hopefully, a quarterback will be found in the coming years. Maybe the Browns will be good when I’m 40 (27 right now).
