Kirk Cousins rumors have spread since last season, finally resolved at the NFL draft?
With free agency starting last month, the Cleveland Browns were as active as people expected them to be. The only move that the team made of significance was giving star defensive end Myles Garrett a new contract, making him the highest-paid non-offensive player in the league.
What about the quarterback? Yes, the team traded for Super Bowl champion quarterback Kenny Pickett, but everyone knows Pickett is not the answer long term and hopefully not the 2025 answer. Who is? No one knows for sure, but rumors continue to swirl that Kirk Cousins will be the guy.
Last week, Cousins was seen in the Cleveland area and even commented on a picture of him at Chipotle. While that was reportedly for “non-football” reasons, one NFL Insider believes there is fire to the smoke:
Based on the conversations I’ve been hearing, it would not be surprising to see Kirk Cousins end up in Cleveland. pic.twitter.com/bqZ1PZi4AJ

The other options, and the QB market as a whole, are not strong and the options are dwindling. However, the Cousins option continues to swirl. Almost a month ago came the projection that he’d be a Brown “by the weekend.”
All signs point to Kirk Cousins being in the #Browns cards right now as @AlbertBreer notes… the Falcons are just 6 days away from owing him another 10M guaranteed pic.twitter.com/919C2X2cKv

After Atlanta picked up Cousins’ option, a trade is the only option that makes sense as keeping him a Falcon doesn’t seem like something anyone wants.
Despite what people will say, Cousins isn’t a bad option considering the current QB market right now and how the quarterback draft class isn’t the best. The Browns cannot afford to be picky with who they want to be the signal caller.
Cousins played well early last year but during the 2nd half of the season, his play declined. Some will factor age, others will factor in an injury he suffered. It could be a combination of both.
The signs are obvious that the Browns are tied to Cousins and it’s only a matter of time (Day 2 of the NFL draft most likely) before he’s in Cleveland (not just for chain restaurant meals). Cousins isn’t the long-term answer, but he can be a bridge quarterback for one year, and the team can move on to their potential rookie quarterback if they see fit.
Do you think Cousins to Cleveland is a foregone conclusion at this point or is everyone just guessing/putting the pieces together?
