I wrote this article about Browns DE Myles Garrett giving my perspective about the news made today and how I felt about the way it was handled.

Anyway, here’s a separate point I want to make about this whole situation heading into the offseason with this storyline.
A majority of fans, myself included, will/have said or pointed out just how horrific and disgraceful this Browns franchise currently is and has been since Garrett was drafted in Cleveland way back in 2017.
This would be the justification for Garrett’s request for a trade, whether it had been in private with the franchise or publicly like he did. That’s what many will always cite starting now and moving forward even years from now.
However, here’s a thought…
Garrett was a “Cleveland Guy” and would attend Cavs games and local events truly loved by those in these parts. Even though many will understand why he wanted out, well, he could’ve also said in a piece similar to the announcement about the trade request…
“I’m loyal to Cleveland for life. I want to play my entire career here in Cleveland with the Browns. That’s why I do not want to be traded.”
So in the future, it will be interesting to see how people truly feel about Garrett looking back on this news that he made by requesting a trade to get out of this city that loved him.
Of course, the reference to LeBron James is very different in many ways. However, he was able to obviously make up for it with the championship in ’16. Let’s see what ends up happening with Garrett and how he will be looked upon in the coming years and beyond.
My guess?
A lot of it is obviously going to depend on the trade made for Garrett, who the team gets and how this player(s) ends up doing here. Additionally, how the team as a whole will end up playing in the future years.
Who knows?
Maybe this will end up working out for the best for everyone. Or, Garrett could be cited as a traitor and loser, too. It remains to be seen.
The saddest part of this all is that it has come to this and Garrett did have to feel like he needed to request a trade out of Cleveland. It’s going to be a tough couple of years that were already looking bleak.
