Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is once again in the headlines.
This time, it has nothing to do with his recent request for a trade away from the team that took him first overall in the 2017 NFL draft. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year failed to defend his title this year as Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II has brought home the hardware.
Garrett finished in third place in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting this season.
Garrett did, however, once again finish with more first-place votes than Pittsburgh Steelers’ pass rusher T.J. Watt. Overall, Garrett finished with a total of 162 votes: five first-place votes, 11 second-place votes, and 12 third-place votes among them.
Surtain II, the winner, finished with 26 first-place votes, while Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson finished second with 11 first-place votes.
As Garrett looks to reclaim his crown as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year next year, let’s hope it is once again in a Browns uniform.
