Well, the Browns have been lucky enough to have one of the greatest defensive players to ever play in defensive end Myles Garrett. So far this season, he has six tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles. Unfortunately, Garrett has some troubling injuries he is suffering currently. The team has listed him with the following injuries: Achilles, foot and thigh. It was profoundly seen, the pain he was in, throughout the terrible Giants’ game last week in Cleveland that no one wants to talk about anymore.
Now, despite not practicing the reports are that Garrett is playing to play through the pain on Sunday in Las Vegas against the Raiders. While that is admirable, the negative implications are quite severe.
It would certainly make sense if it were a playoff game or a possible clinching game. Sort of that all-or-nothing type of deal that we see late in the year. But just a regular season game at the beginning of it all is honestly a bad idea.
Myles, why not take the week off? It’s the smart choice honestly and many agree, experts included.
Get healed up all around and ready to play in Week Five against the Washington Commanders back in Cleveland. Forcing it isn’t going to solve the problem and it may just make everything a bit worse or something so bad it ends it for weeks or the year.
This Browns team is already suffering enough problems on the offensive side of the ball and let’s keep it good on defense. Other players will step up for this game in Garrett’s absence and help the team pull out a win.
The other thing to think about is simply Garrett’s ability to “play through the pain.” Will he still be able to be at the elite level we’ve known him to be at all of these years? That would also remain to be seen…
More details with time will come out on the severity of Garrett’s injury and what he ultimately decides for this week in Vegas. A loss to him for a length of time would really put in a dent in this defensive led by him.
***Garrett did practice today (Thursday). No decision on game status entirely.
Luckily, football is not just dictated by a single player on a team. Let’s see the Browns come out and win to turn around a season filled with so much disappointment so far regardless of Garrett’s decision to play or not come Sunday.
