Myles Garrett rumors have stopped but the NFL combine is around the corner where Browns, Lions could talk
At the present moment, the Cleveland Browns are far more likely to hang on to DE Myles Garrett than to trade him. That doesn’t mean things won’t change especially with the NFL combine kicking off next week. A Garrett trade would lead to a significant return but maybe not as much as Browns fans would like.
There have been a number of projected Garrett trade proposals but most of them seem to miss the mark overall. With the salary cap implications and the team’s roster, Cleveland needs to be blown away to make a deal.
The Detroit Lions are an obvious team that should be calling the Browns to try to make a deal but nothing will match the wild proposal on ESPN near last year’s NFL trade deadline. On Lions Wire, USA Today’s coverage of Detroit’s team, Jeff Risdon had a realistic trade proposal but, again, one that doesn’t go to the extreme many would want:
The Lions send the following to the Browns:
2025 1st round pick (No. 28)
2025 3rd round pick (No. 101)
2026 1st round pick
2026 3rd round pick
DT Brodric MartinIn exchange, the Browns send this package back to Detroit:
EDGE Myles Garrett
2025 5th round pick (No. 165)
2026 2nd round pick
Simplifying it, Cleveland gets two first-round picks, moves up two rounds (from the 5th to the 3rd this year) and moves down one round (2nd to 3rd) in 2026. Martin was a third-round pick in 2023 but has only played in five games in his two seasons.
The biggest issue with this proposal from the Lions is where their picks are and are likely to fall. Both first-round picks are likely to be closer to the second round than the top 10 especially with Garrett joining Aidan Hutchinson as he returns from injury.
The 28th and 32nd picks are weak returns for a top-level pass rusher in the NFL but do provide the Browns with ammunition to become competitive quickly.
What do you think of this Lions proposal? Have you seen any realistic trades for Garrett that you like?
