Trade rumors haven’t started to swirl but the Lions, Bears and Patriots are among 5 teams to call Browns about Myles Garrett
Nothing is easy for the Cleveland Browns and, most of the time, the team has brought it upon themselves. The trade for QB Deshaun Watson has blown up in their face and led to DE Myles Garrett requesting a trade. While the Browns have stated they will not be trading Garrett, GM Andrew Berry is likely to be overwhelmed with calls from almost every team in the league looking to trade for the best defender in the NFL.
The Garrett trade rumors will swirl quickly. While Cleveland may not want to deal Garrett, offers, like the made-up one with the Detroit Lions near the trade deadline, could create an opportunity for a reset.
Trying to gauge what the Browns could get in return for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year could be tough. DE Khalil Mack, along with second and fifth-rounders, was traded a few years ago in return for two first-round picks, a third and a sixth. Mack was a couple of years younger but less impactful as a defensive end.
While the entire league should be reaching out to trade for Garrett, here are five teams that should already have made the call:
- Detriot Lions
A team that is Super Bowl caliber could pair Garrett with Hutchinson in an all-in move.
A surprise NFC Conference title participant, the Commanders have a lot of momentum, a young quarterback on a rookie deal and a defensive-minded head coach who can afford to take a big swing.
If the Bears trust new HC Ben Johnson and QB Caleb Williams to raise the offense, a game changer like Garrett could change the defense and cash in on the rookie scale QB deal.
Continuing the young, cheap QB list, QB Drake Maye still has a lot to prove but Mike Vrabel spent a year with Garrett and the Patriots need some kind of identity. New England doesn’t have the Super Bowl potential of some of the other teams on the list.
A defensive-minded head coach, a loaded offense, playing in a dome and playing in the south could all be attractive to Garrett and give the Falcons a reason to pony up a big deal.
There are loads of other teams, including all of the AFC North, that should call about Garrett. We will probably hear that the Browns are not interested in dealing Garrett until a deal is actually completed but rumors of teams involved and what they could get in return will swirl quickly.
Which team do you think HAS to get a deal done for Garrett? What do you think the return would be if the Browns decide to trade him?
