Cam Ward could become the prize of this year’s NFL draft after all if rumors are right
Rumors are a tricky thing in all professional sports because information that gets out is leaked for a reason. If a team, agent, player representative or a player themselves will benefit from the information being released, can it really be trusted? On the other hand, rumors are also a part of the process for all sides involved.
We have tried to keep you up to date on what we are hearing involving the Cleveland Browns and other rumors that could impact the team. Here you can read Day 1 and Day 2 rumors from the NFL combine.
Early rumors had the Tennessee Titans locked into selecting QB Cam Ward with the first overall pick. Then, by the time the league rolled into Indianapolis, that sentiment had switched to DE Abdul Carter. Then news broke that Carter has a foot injury/issue and the Titans might need a backup plan.
This morning I was informed that if Tennessee was worried about Carter’s injury that trading down with the New York Giants was a distinct possibility. As we noted on Day 1, the Giants are very interested in Ward but would likely pass on Shedeur Sanders with the third pick, based on rumors at the NFL combine.
With the Browns thought to have Ward as their clear top quarterback, it makes sense for the Giants to look to move ahead of Cleveland. While not directly stating it, Benjamin Allbright also clearly alluded to a New York, Tennessee trade:
Would not be surprised to see a trade in the top 5 of this draft to get to #1
A large trade. A Giant one. Titanic if you will.

If the Titans are not sold on Carter at the top, whether due to injury or overall evaluation, the Giants selecting Ward would create an interesting proposition for the Browns. Do they take Sanders (the second rated QB according to most), Carter (depending on their evaluation of his injury) or select WR (who could play CB as well) Travis Hunter?
A long way to go, including NFL free agency, until teams need to make a decision, but a trade from #3 to #1 could shake things up for a lot of teams.
What do you think of rumors this early in the process? If the Browns have Ward clearly as their top player, should they be trying to make the move to #1 to block the Giants?
