Rumors have connected the two but Kirk Cousins to the Browns is far from done
With NFL free agency looming, the questions surrounding the Cleveland Browns and their quarterback situation have been a situation worth monitoring. Whether it’s free agency or in the draft, the Browns will have a new signal caller in 2025. The question is, who will it be? The answer could be someone that’s currently with the Atlanta Falcons as the backup quarterback right now.
Earlier this week at the combine, Atlanta Falcons GM Terry Fontenot said the team is looking forward to having Kirk Cousins on the team and they will pay him his roster bonus in the coming weeks. Very few believe it.

Reading between the lines:
oh sure. We all know Terry isn’t paying that $10m roster bonus on 3/17. Posturing for a trade that no team will make. https://t.co/20amr23cjE

I will translate here:
“for the foreseeable future” means until March 17th 2025 when he has $10m of money in 2026 guarantee
Praying for a trade offer that will likely never come… https://t.co/ETFgKMNCW5

It’s pretty obvious that the Falcons are trying to get a team to trade for Cousins in order to take on his contract. It might not appear to be the case at first but from what we were told, the team is quietly shopping Cousins but no one is taking the bait. A trade would be impossible to take due to Cousins having a no-trade clause in his contract.
It’s likely Cousins will be cut from the Falcons and will hit the market and the one team that has been rumored for a possible landing spot is the team in northeast Ohio.
It seems inevitable that Cousins will likely sign with Cleveland, if he were to hit the market. From the rumors circulating at the NFL combine, Cousins is coming to Cleveland due to his connection with head coach Kevin Stefanski when they were in Minnesota. Cousins could be signed for a veteran minimum deal and be the bridge quarterback for the possible rookie quarterback that the team takes in this upcoming draft.
Watching the tape, Cousins clearly was hampered by injuries in the second half of the season, his arm strength looked diminished because of the arm injury he suffered at one point. His processing looked slower, and he looked hesitant, which was strange considering how he looked prior to the downgrade in play. If there is one quarterback that could be on his way to Cleveland, Cousins is a likely possibility.
