Analyzing RB Javonte Williams as a potential free agent signing for Cleveland
The Cleveland Browns are heading into the offseason with a few important goals, and one of them is to continue adding depth, reliability, and playmaking ability to the running back room.
This year’s free-agent class is surprisingly full of depth-level running back talent who could help “ease” the pain of losing Nick Chubb if Cleveland can’t get him re-signed in 2025.
One of the most intriguing prospects for the team is Javonte Williams, who’s been a fairly valuable member of the Denver Broncos backfield since 2021.

Fit with Browns
Williams is going to be one of the better running back options in the 2025 free-agent market, and he’s a slightly better pure runner than Jerome Ford as of right now.
He’s been a fairly effective player in Sean Payton’s offense as well, which uses multiple run schemes similar to Kevin Stefanski.
Browns player signing could impact
Jerome Ford. Williams has had a very similar career to Ford in terms of production, and they’d both have a similar role in the offense going forward depending on Nick Chubb’s situation.
How the signing could impact the NFL Draft
Signing Javonte Williams would likely give Cleveland a sense of comfort heading into the NFL Draft. Though he’s been more effective as a pass-catcher as of late, his presence could allow the Browns to hold off on selecting a running back until day three.
