There were reports that quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a “setback” this offseason regarding his previous injury. Well, that has been officially confirmed with a solid report from Adam Schefter.
Well, this is now the truth and everything that was expected is true. I hesitate to use the word “fear,” as one would say with a beloved and valuable athlete who is injured on their favorite team. Not quite the situation here in Cleveland with these Browns.
Schefter also stated, “Doctors consider the recovery from the latest surgery to repair Deshaun Watson’s torn Achilles to be at least seven months, potentially giving him a chance to return next season.”
Frankly, the question, now moving forward, isn’t so much about the Browns pushing for Watson to get better but if the team cares enough to even try to get him healthy with how horrific he has been since signing in Cleveland back in 2022 for five years and 230 million.
Let’s play the hypothetical game and say the Browns really do make a push to try and get Watson back on the field as the starter this upcoming season in 2025. That is going to be a battle in it of itself. Even if it is done, the question then becomes…
How likely is Deshaun Watson able to play the quarterback position and not sustain yet another injury this upcoming year and beyond? Injuries just happened this past year on the field and yet again this offseason off the field. The ability for him to lead the team in the future is very not high. This one adds all of the off-the-field issues that have been sustained and is just quite the mess.
In my previous article about Watson, I wrote the following as to what the team should try and accomplish. Here are those notes once again for you to read:
-First, the Browns better select a quarterback with the second pick overall in this upcoming draft.
-Next, sign a solid free-agent veteran quarterback such as Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields or Jacoby Brissett.
-Also, simply wouldn’t mind keeping Jameis Winson to be that third-string hype-up guy. Kind of like Tristan Thompson is on this current Cleveland Cavaliers team.
All of those thoughts are even more reinforced by the news that has been made about Deshaun Watson. It’s what the Browns need to do this offseason. Those with added moves can partially resolve what has been possibly one of the worst signings in the history of sports.
Deshaun, feel better. I guess…
Frankly, it is looking like even more and more again that Deshaun Watson is never going to take a snap under center as quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.
