It’s been an absolutely awful year for the Browns, just finishing it off with a loss to the Ravens. Their record is 3-14 on the season, last place in the AFC North. A player who is often talked about and one that has been respected throughout his time in Cleveland is defensive end Myles Garrett.
Garrett is now 29 years old, heading into what will be his ninth year with the Browns. He is arguably one of the best players at his position and really on defense in general. However, this is the point I like to always make about Garrett. Look at the Browns’ record this season. Reflect on the fact that despite Garrett having 14 sacks, the team as a whole was awful. He can only make so much of an impact each game.
Football is just simply different compared to say, basketball, where one player, such as LeBron James, can absolutely dominate a game with elite force and completely destroy.

The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he indicated that a contract extension could be part of his team discussions He’s under contract through 2026 at an average of $25 million a year, which is fifth-highest in the NFL and significantly below Nick Bosa’s $34 million a year.
“I mean, there’ll be something coming,” he said without elaborating.

Myles, you have a choice.
I spoke of LeBron earlier to compare a different sport, but I would like to point out what a city can do or not do for you in the future. First, let’s point out what could happen…
The Browns decide to trade Garrett to a contending franchise for a plethora of picks and some prospects or whatnot moving forward heading into 2025. As my brother always likes to say, “well that’s on you.” This time in reference to the Browns as a franchise themselves.
Let’s say it actually comes down to meetings with the Browns’ front office and Garrett in regards to a contract extension. Well, this is where there is a big choice upcoming for Garrett and what he wants to do. Honestly, I wouldn’t blame Garrett for wanting to play somewhere else after all of these pretty horrific seasons he’s been a part of for his entire career.
However, Myles does get the “LeBron” treatment these days from Cleveland fans when he shows up to a Cavs game and is a part owner and whatnot with all of that love. Going to a different team or “taking your talents” elsewhere would actually ruin all of that because fans would be super salty that he left even with all of the years of greatness. His career will never be looked upon the same even if he wins with a new franchise in the coming years.
Thus, this offseason is going to be filled with a lot of news both good and bad. What to watch for in regards to Myles Garrett?
-Does he stay loyal to Cleveland and decide to sign an extention?
-Does he end up demanding a trade or refuses to extend his deal?
-Does he say he just wants to stick with the current contact and see what the Browns do with that?
Regardless, the Browns will find a way to screw it all up. Right? The team has a lot more to fix besides just one player.
