The Cleveland Browns are actively finding a new quarterback and have already expressed interest to the Los Angeles Rams in veteran Matthew Stafford.
According to SI’s Albert Breer, Stafford has been a name that has come out in Cleveland as their potential starter in 2025. The Rams recently allowed for Stafford’s representation to find a trade partner (and a new contract) in hopes that the numbers Stafford got could bring them closer to an agreement on a contract extension of their own.
Stafford is owed just $4 million in guaranteed money this season, however, so something has to change or else. Breer listed the Browns among a handful of teams already showing interest:
“The teams you’d suspect would have their hat in the ring have, indeed, thrown their hats in the ring. The New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Las Vegas Raiders and others have shown interest.”
Breer reiterated that the Browns remain connected to another veteran in case the pursuit of Stafford turns out to be futile. Given Kirk Cousins’ connection to the Cleveland coaching staff, namely head coach Kevin Stefanski, his dirt-cheap cost, and his ability to start with no ramp-up with a new playbook, this option is very much on the table as well.
The Browns will be rebuilding the quarterback room. Will it be a rookie, a veteran quarterback, or will it be both? Stay tuned with free agency set to start in just about three weeks.
