The latest Cleveland Browns news and notes from around the NFL in the Saturday Dawg Chow.
We are now less than a week away from the 2025 NFL Draft!
The Cleveland Browns, holders of 10 selections, will resume their quest for a quarterback at some point during the seven rounds of the draft. Will it be Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders at No. 2? Or someone like Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart or Alabama’s Jalen Milroe later on? Or could there be a dark horse candidate that no one is talking about?
All will be revealed starting Thursday night in Green Bay, so until then, let’s get the weekend started with the latest on the Browns and the NFL in today’s edition of the Saturday Dawg Chow.
Dawgs By Nature:
- Meteoric rise of Jaxson Dart (Barry Shuck) – Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss is a guy who is probably on general manager Andrew Berry’s list. So are others. And just because a team like the Cleveland Browns want a guy does not mean that he will be drafted by them.
- Browns NFL draft history: Worst draft pick decision since The Return in 1999 (Jared Mueller) – In a piece that will be posted on SB Nation’s home page soon, we were asked to give what we thought was the Browns biggest draft regret. We all decided to keep our answers to a more recent history (only going back to the 1990s). Cleveland fans were already running through their Rolodex of terrible decisions by the team, but we will start off the conversation with two of them.
- NFL Draft Profile: DE Sai’vion Jones, LSU (Thomas Moore) – While it may seem as if the Cleveland Browns are set at defensive end, there is room to add talent from the 2025 NFL Draft if the right name comes along, and that name could be Sai’vion Jones of LSU.
- 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Saints, Bears, 49ers, Cowboys: Who took a QB in DBN’s mock draft? (Chris Pokorny) – It’s time to kick off the 2025 DBN Community NFL Mock Draft! We are releasing four picks at a time in one post to give you more substance to digest how the draft is unfolding, with today’s picks covering the New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys.
- Browns shouldn’t expect Joe Flacco to repeat what he did in 2023 (Curtiss Brown) – Expecting Joe Flacco to come in and repeat what he did in 2023 is just an unlikely possibility. Contrary to popular belief, Flacco could make the Browns offense worse instead of making it better.
Cleveland Browns:
- Why the Browns should gamble on Jalen Milroe’s ‘rare physical talent’ (cleveland.com) – The Cleveland Browns will likely take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft. But if not at No. 2 overall, it means, even if they are concocting a scheme to move back into the first round to take one, they’re also willing to risk losing one they like if someone beats them to it.
- Browns 2025 NFL draft needs: Defensive linemen from Abdul Carter to Deone Walker (Beacon Journal) – The Cleveland Browns have a variety of positional needs they have to address through the draft. This is the third part in a series that looks at those needs, which started with quarterback, continued with wide receivers and tight ends, running backs, and offensive tackle before now going to defensive linemen.
- Evaluating 3 pass catchers in the 2025 NFL Draft (clevelandbrowns.com) – This time next week, the 2025 NFL Draft will be underway, and the Cleveland Browns will be in the midst of adding young talent to the roster. With 10 total picks, Cleveland can look to add prospects at numerous positions, address areas of need and bring in depth to others. One group the Browns could look at is pass catchers – whether in a receiver or a tight end.
- Elijah Arroyo is latest Miami tight end looking for great NFL career (Browns Zone) – The University of Miami has a tradition of producing terrific tight ends. Over the last 2½ decades, Jimmy Graham, Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow II, Bubba Franks and David Njoku became NFL Pro Bowlers after their time in Coral Gables. Elijah Arroyo is looking to add to the lineage after being predicted to be selected in the first two or three rounds of the NFL Draft next week.
NFL:
- NFL scouting is broken. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders is all the proof you need (The Guardian) – The son of Coach Prime has the production, pedigree and poise to lead a franchise. But he challenges the prototype of what an NFL quarterback is supposed to look and act like.
- QB Jaxson Dart will not be attending NFL draft in Green Bay (ESPN) – Quarterback Jaxson Dart has apparently changed his mind and will not be in Green Bay for the 2025 NFL draft. No reason has been given for Dart’s change of plans.
- Puka Nacua believes 49ers’ ‘window closes’ if Brock Purdy makes more than $50 million per year (NFL.com) – Los Angeles Rams receiver Puka Nacua is used to sticking his nose into traffic to make a catch. Recently, the star wideout leaned into chatter about division-rival quarterback Brock Purdy’s contract.
