ESPN released a new report covering the quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft that the Cleveland Browns could be coveting.
Quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami are the two top prospects in the draft. ESPN surveyed 20 scouts and executives about the quarterback class. 11 of the voters went with Shedeur as their top quarterback, while nine went with Ward.
ESPN surveyed the group earlier in the season. The class was far muddier then as four quarterbacks received votes. Ward received one vote. Carson Beck was the top vote-getter receiving five votes. He transferred to Miami after a disappointing season and suffering a UCL tear during the SEC championship game.
Alabama’s Jalen Milroe received four votes, and Texas’ Quinn Ewers received one vote. Milroe and Ewers have declared for the NFL draft but might want to continue their college careers. The NFL has shown they have little patience for developing quarterbacks. Meanwhile, colleges will pay top dollar for great college quarterbacks. In the NIL era, experience is more valuable than ever.
The Cleveland Browns desperately need a quarterback on a rookie deal to replace Deshaun Watson. Unfortunately, there aren’t many quality options for the team, even with the second-overall pick. Sanders has all of the intangible skills a quarterback needs to succeed, but not all of the physical tools. Ward has the physical tools but lacks the discipline to play in structure.
Each quarterback has a major question about their game they’ll need to answer in the NFL. The Browns may have to wait to find their franchise quarterback.
