As the Cleveland Browns get set to search for a new offensive coordinator, one insider has pointed to Klint Kubiak as a name to watch.
This is, of course, the son of Stefanski’s mentor and long-term NFL head coach Gary Kubiak. This has been an obvious name from the jump given the time the two spent together with the Minnesota Vikings and the likelihood that Kubiak will be back on the market again in a few weeks.
SI’s Albert Breer has now name-dropped Kubiak as a name to put under the microscope.
Kubiak is currently under contract with the New Orleans Saints in the same role. For the Browns to hire Kubiak as he cannot take a lateral move while under contract, he would have to be fired or released from his deal in New Orleans by the next head coach of the franchise.
This could prove problematic from a time perspective as the Saints are not going to rush their head coaching hire, and that head coach will likely take his time figuring out his staff.
The Browns are also set to interview an internal candidate, tight ends coach Tommy Rees, for the vacancy as well. After already hiring a new offensive line coach, the Browns may be looking to put their staff back together fast.
