The latest Cleveland Browns news and notes from around the NFL in the Sunday Dawg Chow.
The NFL has entered the offseason, a point driven home today by the realization that we are seven months away from a game being played that matters.
It’s a sobering reality, but it also means that we are just a little more than a week away from the annual Scouting Combine, which takes place from February 24 through March 3 in Indianapolis.
A total of 329 players eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft will be in attendance, and the Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski will have their eyes on several of them as the Browns hold nine selections, including the No. 2 overall pick, making it the first time Cleveland will be on the clock in the first round since 2021.
Dawgs By Nature has been busy and will remain busy producing draft profiles for a host of players, all of which you can conveniently find here. We’re also focusing on free agency with profiles of potential targets for the Browns, and there is a rumor that there will be a dedicated page for them as well, so keep your eyes open!
Let’s kick the day off with the latest edition of the Sunday Dawg Chow.
Dawgs By Nature:
- Can the Browns win the Myles Garrett sweepstakes? (Thomas Moore) – It has been 12 days since Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett went public with his request for the team to trade him after eight seasons in Cleveland. And while fans dream of a bounty of draft picks in exchange for the game’s best defensive player, the reality is that the market may not be all that robust, a scenario that ESPN’s Bill Barnwell looks at in his latest article.
- National 7-round NFL mock draft transforms Browns offense including 2 Buckeyes (Jared Mueller) – Pro Football Network just completed the arduous task of a full 7-round NFL mock draft with explanations for all of the picks in the first three rounds. PFN has the Browns adding offensive players with their first four picks, all currently scheduled within the first 94 of this year’s draft.
- New data suggests Browns should trade Myles Garrett this year not next (Jared Mueller) – Rumors suggest the Browns are not trading Myles Garrett but recent data suggests maybe they should.
Cleveland Browns:
- Browns 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Quarterback or no quarterback at No. 2? (cleveland.com) – The folks at the Senior Bowl like to say the NFL Draft starts in Mobile, Alabama, but it really starts at the combine. That’s when the NFL world descends on Indianapolis and prospects begin to make their cases for their next home. The Cleveland Browns have a very important choice to make early on.
- Browns Fan of the Year Larry Schmitz cherishes Super Bowl experience with daughter (clevelandbrowns.com) – As Private First Class of the United States Marine Corps veteran Larry Schmitz stood in the tunnel at Caesars Superdome ahead of Super Bowl 59, he heard a recognizable voice echoing down the tunnel. He turned and saw Jameis Winston making his way through the fans representing each franchise for the NFL 2024 Fan of the Year.
- Browns mock draft 1.0: Pass rush addressed early, QB taken on Day 2 (The Athletic) – Mock drafts are difficult. They’re mostly about creating discussion and providing general analysis — unless I get a couple of the Cleveland Browns’ picks right, in which case I’ll relentlessly victory lap and constantly write about the importance of mock drafts.
NFL:
- Predictability, lack of adjustments doomed Bobby Slowik, Texans (ESPN) – On a Thursday afternoon, Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans and offensive coordinator Nick Caley sat side-by-side at the Texans facility for Caley’s introductory news conference. It served as a reminder of why Ryans was there with a new OC.
- Pete Bommarito has spent two decades getting hundreds ready for the NFL (Miami Herald) – On a humid South Florida morning where the sun is on full blast at 8 a.m., Pete Bommarito’s is adorned in all black, and so is his army of employees.
- Five (or more) potential landing spots for Aaron Rodgers (Washington Post) – The 41-year-old quarterback and the New York Jets have indeed parted ways. If Rodgers opts to keep playing, where could he end up?
